The equipment

What is Reformer Pilates?

The Reformer is a beautifully engineered piece of equipment: a padded carriage that glides along a frame, connected to springs and pulleys that provide gentle, adjustable resistance. You can lie, sit, kneel or stand on it, which means the exercises meet you exactly where you are.

That adjustability is what makes Reformer Pilates so versatile. The springs can be lightened to support a beginner learning a movement, or increased to challenge someone building strength. It offers the precision of classical Pilates with far more variety than Mat work alone, and it suits complete beginners and experienced clients alike.

Our studio is being fitted with modern reformers, chosen for smooth, quiet movement and comfortable support, in a calm space with room to breathe.

What a class looks like

Thoughtful teaching, from the first minute.

Every Reformer class at Vida is shaped around the people in the room, not a fixed routine. Here is what you can expect.

01

A proper welcome

Your first class begins with a conversation. We ask about your history, any aches or injuries and what you'd like to achieve, so the teaching is tailored from the very start.

02

Guided, hands-on teaching

Classes are deliberately small, so your teacher can watch how you move, offer gentle corrections and adjust your springs and position as you go. You are never left to guess.

03

A balanced session

Each class flows through warm-up, core and strength work, and mobility, finishing with a few minutes to breathe and settle. You should leave feeling taller, steadier and calm.

04

Progress at your pace

As your confidence grows, your teacher will suggest the next step, whether that is a new exercise, more resistance or a different class. Nothing is rushed.

Why people love it

The benefits of Reformer Pilates.

Builds strength gently

Spring resistance works your muscles deeply without pounding your joints, making it ideal if high-impact exercise does not suit you.

Supports a healthy back

Reformer work strengthens the deep muscles that support your spine, and our back care classes are taught by teachers experienced in working with back pain.

Improves posture and mobility

The focus on alignment and controlled movement helps release stiff areas and restore ease through your spine, shoulders and hips.

Suits every body

Because the springs support as well as challenge, Reformer Pilates can be adapted for beginners, during pregnancy, in later life or when returning from injury.

Calms the mind

Concentrating on breath and precise movement quiets a busy mind. Most people leave a class feeling clearer and more settled than when they arrived.

Creates visible change

Practised regularly, Reformer Pilates builds a stronger core, better balance and a body that feels capable in everyday life, from lifting to sitting comfortably.
